What you’ve missed – Day 28 of NaNoWriMo

Word count: 50,337

I’ve made it! I’ve crossed the finish line! In roughly 25 days, I hit the 50,000 word goal for National Novel Writing Month. It feels great, especially as I never anticipated I’d finish, at least not when I first began. Yet, I told myself I would commit to Eleanor, stick to the daily goals at the very least, then hope that something would come from it.

At 2am November 26: There seems to be a slight discrepancy however between my personal word count with Word and the word count with NaNoWriMo. I’m not certain why there is such a difference. I actually finished on 50,131. I can only assume that perhaps it counts hyphenated words as two words, for example…? Not sure.

As you can see, my work has slowed down. However, I will continue working on Eleanor until the 30th – I want to keep adding to my word count. NaNoWriMo has been a wonderful motivational tool, so I want to take advantage of it for as long as I can!

Thank you to everybody who supported me throughout NaNoWriMo, and to everybody who continues to support me. It has been a blast, and I can’t wait to do it again next year. If you’re thinking about giving it a go, definitely go for it 🙂

So, what now?
I will be revising my work, but before that, I think I will spend some more time relaxing… The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt-style!

In December things will be quite chaotic, as you can understand. Everything will slow down again, but I aim to get Eleanor to a publishable standard very, very soon. I am also considering my options, ie traditional vs self-publishing. I think it will come down to the potential of the book.

And, of course, I feel as though I am neglecting my other works in progress: A Travesty and Wings of Malice.

Coming up?
I will also post up my Eleanor playlist, so you can see (and listen to) everything I had playing whilst trying to write. Much of it proved as a hindrance, actually. It’s hard to listen to your favourite songs and not sing along.

Also, the Blue Fringe Arts Literature event is coming up soon, which is very exciting as it was not going to run this year. I have submitted a work, and will be attending.

For now…

From this week’s playlist:

Björk – Army of Me
Imperia – Fragile
The Superjesus – Shut My Eyes
Battle Beast – Black Ninja
Aesma Daeva – D’oreste D’adjace
Kate Bush – Wuthering Heights

What you missed on social media (including all the boring bits):

Dalmatian puppy getting a massage!

If John Hurt had a cat coming out of his chest, he would have at least been happy in his final moments in Alien.

A little bit of Community

A moment of crisis!

More Witcher, of course!

And a discovery!

Bad Sex in Fiction Awards. Never knew there was such a thing, and I can’t be certain that I am better for knowing about it now.

Because there were two articles on it… and some discrepancy.

Again, thank you so much to everybody who sent me love and support during this project!

What you’ve missed – Day 21 of NaNoWriMo

Eutemia I Regular

Word count: 40,098

Things are certainly coming together now. Only 10k more words to go, and I am confident I will finish NaNoWriMo early 🙂

I was hoping to reveal more about my story, Eleanor, but it seems there isn’t much I can reveal without giving away too many of the plot points.

But I can share with you the wrap cover for Eleanor!

Part One: roughly 10,000 words. As you can see, I did not work on Part One at all last week, but I will go back to it this week.
Part Two: roughly 12,000 words. Eleanor and Henry have been getting closer. Eleanor has also begun classes at the university, much to the displeasure of her sister, Vivienne.
Part Three: roughly 16,000 words. Things have gotten dark, like seriously dark, especially for Eleanor and Vivienne.
Part Four: between 1,000 and 2,000 words. The exciting conclusion, and a “Whoa! What?” feeling.

Fingers crossed I can reveal more next week, after I’ve tied up some loose ends.

For now…

Eleanor, you’ve lost me…

The Smashing Pumpkins – Vanity

This one hasn’t been stuck in my head that much, though I must admit that my love for The Smashing Pumpkins is enough to warrant a post ❤

Know any other songs with ‘Eleanor’ in the lyrics? Post them below.

From this week’s playlist:

Within Temptation – And We Run
Silverchair – Emotion Sickness
Heavenly – Carpe Diem
Fleetwood Mac – Rhiannon
The Cure – Lovesong
Super Castlevania IV – Cellar

What you missed on social media (including all the boring bits):

Chills, and brought to tears. This is my all-time favourite song, and I would go so far as to say it is the greatest song ever.

The cute!

And National Black Cat Day!

And… more Witcher 3: Wild Hunt cosplay!

Absolutely love this Ciri costume. It looks amazing! ❤

And Triss Merigold! ❤

By the way, if you haven’t played the game… seriously get onto it! Without a doubt The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is my all-time favourite game. There is a reason why it has won over 800 awards!

And, one last thing. To show you NaNoWriMo can be done…

That’s it for this week, I guess! Join me again on the 28th of November for another update 🙂

What you’ve missed – Day 14 of NaNoWriMo

Eutemia I Regular

Word count: 26,855

Things have slowed down this week, but I am happy to say that I am still meeting the NaNoWriMo daily goals. And… I have hit the halfway mark!

The journey so far with Eleanor.
As predicted, I have not been sticking to my original plan of working on each Part within a designated period. That’s still part of a plan though, right? I mean, I knew I wouldn’t stick to a plan, therefore I have inadvertently stuck to a plan of not sticking to a plan. Ah huh!
How about I just break it down, so you know how I’ve been working?
Part One: roughly 10,000 words. It still needs some work, particularly on the opening paragraph. I know what I want to write, it’s just a matter of getting my fingers to type what my brain wants… or, being as articulate as I want to be. In other words, I’ll never get it the way I want it, because I am a perfectionist.
Part Two: between 5,000 and 6,000 words. This is the Part I have been neglecting the most. I think because it is one of the more riskier chapters. I suppose that is something you will understand more upon reading it!
Part Three: between 10,000 and 11,000 words. This Part is my pride and joy, etc. Although I am nowhere near my goal yet (I am hoping to reach roughly 20,000 words), this is the Part where everything happens. This is the Part where you will say, “Cadence, why are you doing this to me? Do you hate me? Why can’t your characters be happy?”
“Mwahahahaaa!” is what I will say in return, should I actually hear you speak those words.
Part Four: zip! Nothing yet. Apparently, I am sticking to my initial goal with this one! I will attempt to start something on this Part during the week, but I would like to get more definitive answers to some of the questions throughout the story before attempting this Part. I am certainly not going for a Scooby-Doo ending, with the revelation in your face. That’s not to say it is a murder mystery though.
Maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned Scooby-Doo?

Okay, but where is the story at now?
It’s getting to the tricky part now, where I obviously don’t want to reveal too much, but I will try. I mentioned how my characters are unhappy at the moment. That is true. Eleanor and Vivienne have faced some misfortune, though I cannot specify what kind and in what way. Let’s just focus on Part Two for now…
Eleanor has been spiralling into a depression, but Henry has found a way to get her back into the anatomy classes.
As you know, Vivienne has received some happy news (see, I’m capable of writing happy things!)
Henry has, in his own way, declared his love for Eleanor.
Unfortunately, as I have neglected Part Two in favour of writing Part Three, I do not have much to reveal. Sorry about that!

But I will have a lot more to reveal next week, regarding Part Three. And should I write more on Part Two, I will make sure to fill you in with the details.

For now…

The Turtles – Elenore

Just another song I’ve had playing over and over in my head whilst trying to write. Again, love this song, so there’s no problem there.

Though… that one line always gets me, “You’re my pride and joy et cetera” XD

Know any other songs with ‘Eleanor’ in the lyrics? Post them below.

This week on my playlist (well, just some of the songs I’ve been listening to):

Babymetal – KARATE
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Once More, With Feeling soundtrack
Foo Fighters – See You
Edenbridge – Fallen From Grace
Tarja Turunen – I Walk Alone
White Town – Your Woman

What you missed on social media (including all the boring bits):

Coffee overdose

And… election depression

But let’s remember the good times…

That’s it for this week, I guess! Join me again on the 21st of November for another update 🙂

What you’ve missed – Day 7 of NaNoWriMo

Eutemia I Regular

Word count: 14,993

Actually, this will explain all…

So, what’s been happening with Eleanor during National Novel Writing Month?
So far, I’ve written Part One, and started both Parts Two, and Three. I’ve arranged each part as follows:
Part One: to be completed between 1st November and 6th November. Approximately 10k words in length
Part Two: to be completed between 7th November and 12th November. Approximately 10k words in length
Part Three: to be completed between 13th November and 24th November. Approximately 20k words in length
Part Four: to be completed between 25th November and 30th November. Approximately 10k words in length.

These are only estimates however and, as I am quite fickle, I am likely to change my mind about length, or how I will approach each part. Currently, I am working on Part Three, so you can see what I mean!

Okay, but what’s been happening in Eleanor?
I was getting to that! So far, Eleanor, who is still in mourning for her late father, has met Henry, the love interest, and has just been thrown out of the university. Her sister has just become engaged.

BUT… this is a Cadence novel. Happiness never lasts! I won’t reveal too much of course, only the little things I think you can handle 😉 Money has become an issue since the death of Eleanor’s father; Henry is figuring out ways to get her back into university; and she has taken to the green faery (absinthe).

Next week, I will reveal more.

For now…

There is nothing worse than having a song stuck in your head whilst trying to write, unless that song is…

The Beatles – Eleanor Rigby

Yes, ever since deciding Eleanor was to be the name of not only my NaNoWriMo novel project, but the name of my heroine, I have done nothing but sing this song.

Know any other songs with ‘Eleanor’ in the lyrics? Post them below.

I am also working on an Eleanor playlist. Here are just some of the tracks I have been listening to whilst writing my novel:

TrilliumScream It
The Smashing PumpkinsBy Starlight
Spinal TapHell Hole
EpicaQuietus (though I much prefer the live version from The Classical Conspiracy album)
RadioheadThere There
Niobeth‘s symphonic metal version of the Queen of the Night Aria from Mozart’s The Magic Flute.

What you missed on social media (including all the boring bits):

And, if you so desire, you can watch the video here.

and the weird stuff!

Of course, that wasn’t my whole week, but it might take a while to catch you all up. Instead, I’ll post a few videos and photos that I think will show you the extent of my procrastination 😉

… and anyone who knows me will know that I am a HUGE Witcher 3 fan, so I thought I’d share some amazing Philippa Eilhart (a character I have considered dressing as for the next con!) cosplay photos I came across this week.

That’s it for this week, I guess! Join me again on the 14th of November for another update 🙂
